This Website supports the Educational Component for the UMASS Medical Center, Cooperative Centers for Translational Research on Human Immunology and BioDefense.

The Educational Component is a dynamic component of the UMASS CTRHIB in advancing key NIAID objectives in biodefense research. The efforts of this component will help CTRHIB investigators, as well as other local and regional researchers, who are interested in developing new biodefense-related research programs to implement novel technologies in immunology research. The workshops organized during the last project year represent a successful start toward meeting these educational objectives, and a multidisciplinary team incorporating expertise in bioinformatics, genomics, proteomics, and flow cytometry has been assembled to implement a broad educational program.

In conjunction with all of the Cooperative Centers we will form research networks to advance laboratory and clinical findings on human immune response to bioterrorism agents. The overall objective of this Educational Component is to organize and implement a diversified program of workshops, lectures, and individualized training in novel technologies in genomics, proteomics, and flow cytometry for the analysis of human immune responses to biodefense pathogens. These efforts include the development of new ways to get information from single immune cells to test very small tissue and blood samples. At CCTRHIB Workshops attendees will learn to use high-through-put techniques to get multiple data out of single analysis as well as learn how to store, share and use that data with other researchers in the Country. The educational programs will be directed principally toward the needs of local and regional investigators but will also be accessible for collaboration with other NIAID biodefense centers through internet conferencing.
